Stakeholder Management

Stakeholder Management

Last week of June 2024, Global Dynamics Consulting CEO, Madam Anne M. Kansary, had the privilege to lecture at the University of Dar es Salaam, Project Management Masters Students. The CEO was invited as a visiting/guest lecturer covering stakeholder management, a topic that is dear to her heart. She was excited about the given topic because it is not only one she enjoys teaching but also, according to her, the most critical subject in project management. As most projects fail due to poor stakeholder management, her insights were invaluable to the students.

The class was very engaging and informative, with the CEO sharing real-world experiences and practical solutions to common stakeholder management issues. At the end, we had a light moment for a few class view photos. Global Dynamics Consulting appreciates the readiness of the CEO to take the opportunity that dropped upon her and create a greater impact.

The Importance of Stakeholder Management

Stakeholder management is crucial in project management because it involves identifying and managing the expectations of all parties involved in a project. It is essential to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page and that their needs and concerns are addressed. Poor stakeholder management can lead to misunderstandings, conflicts, and ultimately project failure. The Global Dynamics Consulting CEO emphasized that understanding and managing stakeholder expectations is key to the success of any project. No matter how tiny stakeholders are, so long as they are identified as stakeholders, they must be addressed.

Project Management Masters vs. PMP Certification: Which is Better?

The lecture sparked a discussion on the merits of pursuing a Project Management Masters versus a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. Both paths have their advantages, and the choice depends on individual career goals and circumstances.

Project Management Masters

A Project Management Masters program provides a comprehensive education in project management principles and practices. It typically includes coursework in areas such as project planning, risk management, quality management, and leadership. A Masters degree is often recognized as a sign of advanced knowledge and expertise, making it a good option for those looking to pursue academic or research-oriented careers in project management.

Stakeholder Management

PMP Certification

On the other hand, the PMP certification, offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), is a globally recognized credential that demonstrates a professional’s ability to manage projects effectively. It is designed for experienced project managers who want to validate their skills and knowledge. The PMP certification process involves rigorous training and a challenging exam, ensuring that certified professionals are well-equipped to handle complex projects.

Why PMP is a Better Choice for Many

While both the Project Management Masters and PMP certification have their merits, the PMP certification is often considered the more practical choice for working professionals. Here’s why:

  1. Global Recognition: The PMP certification is recognized worldwide, making it a valuable asset for those looking to work in international project management roles.
  2. Practical Skills: The PMP certification focuses on practical skills and real-world applications, ensuring that certified professionals are ready to tackle the challenges of managing projects.
  3. Career Advancement: PMP certification holders often see a significant boost in their career prospects and earning potential. It is a mark of excellence that employers highly value.
  4. Networking Opportunities: PMI offers numerous networking opportunities through its chapters and events, allowing PMP holders to connect with other professionals and stay updated on industry trends.
